Wisconsin had some very unusual ice formations the beginning of January. We had warmer weather which caused a lot of fog and then something I have never heard of : Rime Ice. From what I understand, this ice actually is the fog freezing on the windward side of trees, twigs, wires, branches, grasses, etc. Very beautiful and very unusual for Wisconsin. I didn't get out to paint it the first two days, but was able to find some remnants the third day . Some had already melted, but the trees were still holding on to the snow on branches and the distant hills were still covered with the rime. Certainly makes a grey, foggy winter day beautiful !
