Creating Calm in these Uncertain Times with Art- making

As winter's snow has left and the landscape is an uninspiring grey and brown, I set up this white still life in the studio. I am self-isolating during the Covid19 pandemic and needed a calming subject matter to paint. A small white plate with a white French jam dish, a white ironstone creamer, and an antique white lace napkin all reflect the juicy red strawberries. While painting I thought of my joy while painting snow en plein air, the year I lived in France and found the wonder of painting, and the coming of summer when hopefully we can once again enjoy our grandchildren, friends and family. For a little while I could forget the uncertainties happening in the world and lose myself in the creative process.
